Our offer for

Anodizing

Anodizing is an electrochemical process that converts the surface of a piece of aluminum into oxide of the same metal. Anodizing is carried out by immersing the aluminum in an acid electrolyte bath. At the same time as the piece is in the acid bath, an electric current passes through the piece and the solution.

It is important to understand that the anode layer is fully integrated with the underlying aluminum substrate and not only applied to the surface as for paint. This allows the piece to obtain a better resistance to wear, corrosion and heat.

Technical Specifications

Several colors of finishes are available for the anodization process:

  • Capacity as large as 60’’ x 30’’ x 14’’
  • Coating removal services available for a new color or a new treatment
  • We have the possibility to offer other anodizing treatment as needed
  • Matte or lustre finish as needed
  • Thickness of the coating controlled according to your specific requirements or the desired standard

The steps of our anodizing process

We can provide a compliance letter guaranteeing the standards and quality of our products

Step 1

Cleaning

The part is first cleaned to remove grease, dirt, and oils from its surface.

Step 2

Etch

The part then goes through the etch process, which dissolves a thin layer on the surface of the aluminum, giving a smooth and uniform finish.

Step 3

Anodizing

As mentioned above, anodizing is achieved by immersing the piece in a pool of acid electrolyte. A cathode is then mounted inside the anodizing tank. During processing, aluminum acts as an anode, so that the oxygen ions are released from the electrolyte to combine with the aluminum atoms in the part.

Step 4

Stainning

In this step, alternating current is used to deposit metal tin in the piece. Deposition takes place deep in the pore of the piece and not only on the surface. The intensity of the color depends on the filling density. At Placage Boucherville, we offer clear, black, red, gold and blue anodizing at all times and we offer other custom colours on request.

Step 5

Sealing

Finally, the piece is sealed in a hydrothermal bath at high temperature. This step is essential to ensure that the anodized surface will retain its shine and durability for years to come.
The anodized material is then rinsed, unloaded and checked to validate the quality of the treatment.
